Student Foreign Policy Symposium

About the Student Symposium:

In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM), recognized from September 15 to October 15, the Bureau of Global Public Affairs (GPA) has partnered with the Hispanic Employee Council of Foreign Affairs Agencies (HECFAA) to host the Department’s inaugural HHM Student Foreign Policy Symposium. The U.S. Department of State is the lead institution for the conduct of American diplomacy led by the Secretary of State as the President’s principal foreign policy advisor. 

The sessions during the symposium will include:

  • Careers at the State Department 
  • Foreign Policy Classroom Discussions
  • Equity, Access and Prosperity for Hispanic Voices
  • All-Stars Panel with Hispanic Leadership at the State Department
  • After Hours Networking Event

What You Need to Know:

Who Can Attend?

  • The primary audience members for this symposium are Hispanic or Latinx students; students studying at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) and emerging HSIs in the United States. 
  • Professors, faculty, and staff at institutions of higher learning. 
  • Universities and Community Colleges are encouraged to attend.
  • Interagency employees are also welcome to attend.

If you are a student or faculty member at a college or university interested in international affairs, foreign policy, or a career as a diplomat this is the symposium for you.

What Can You Expect during the Symposium? 

 A full day of sessions has been dedicated to careers in international affairs at the U.S. Department of State, panel discussions on the top foreign policy priorities, and discussions highlighting the agency’s Hispanic leadership.

Will There Be Interactive Networking?

 Yes, after the symposium there will be an engaging “After Hours Networking Event” with members of HECFAA, Recruiters, and other Diplomats from the agency from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. EDT via ZoomGov. 

Do You Need Software to Join This Event?

No software is required to participate in the symposium. The website will be emailed to registrants.
